Fraction Friday

Today for Fraction Friday Miss Eyre asked us to divide our class of 12 into 2 halves.

We had to do it all by ourselves, so there was lots of discussion and team work.

At first we had 7 on one side, and 5 on the other side of the string.

That wasn't right because those two numbers are not the same! We had to do some serious thinking to figure it out.

After lots of great discussion and thinking we discovered that half of 12 is 6, and we had 6 students on each side. And we are Room 6! What a coincidence!

Kiwifruit kebabs

You guessed it! Our letter this week is k. We made our own kiwifruit kebabs with marshmallows as a special treat. They tasted pretty good.

Then at morning tea time students made new kebabs with their own morning tea.

What creative thinking!

Our autumn trees are transforming all around us. Here is some of our autumn art. Tell your family how we made it these beautiful creations.

A busy week of learning and making new friends

Cameron showed us some of his home learning. He has his older brother's word cards, and they are helping him to learn! What great thinking!!

Our shared book is about bubbles, and we made bubble art. Tell your family how we made these beautiful pieces.

We have also been having fun with our buddy class. They are in Room 22 with Miss Leader, and we hang out once a week and do some reading with each other.

And then we made fairy bread today, because we are learning about the letter 'f'.

Tell your family about the ingredients we used, and what steps we used to make them. We also used a cookie cutter to make cool shapes. What shapes did you make?

It was delicious!!

Today we ate worms.....

Not real worms!! We are looking at the letter j this week, and we decided to make some jelly worms. We had to cross our fingers as Miss Eyre wasn't sure if they were going to work, but phew, they did.

What happens when you put Jello inside of straws? JELLO WORMS! You rubber band the straws together. Pour the jello mixture in the straws. The liquid will fill the straws and around the outer straw. Place it in the fridge until it gelled. Pull out the clump of banded straws. Run warm water over the straws for about 5 seconds, and the fabulously disgusting life like worms slide out! //Gross! but my kids would love this...

Here's what they looked like on Pinterest.

Here's what they looked like in Room 6! Nailed it!

We also had some students bring in some home learning.

Vivian loves to watch Frozen and she made a book with pictures in it which she will write in.

Oscar loves Ultraman, a cool cartoon. It was all in Chinese, so we looked at the pictures and made predictions about what was happening in the story.

Thanks for sharing, Oscar and Vivian!
