Our tree

Here we are, all 25 of us! We are a crazy bunch. This is us in front of the tree in summer.
See you tonight at Meet the Teacher night, from 5:30.

Game time!

Here are some of the games we have been playing which have been building our class community and having fun!

We played a name game with Miss Gordon, who is the student teacher in Room 12 for the first 2 weeks at school, and then she will visit most Tuesdays for the whole day.

The aim of the game was to say your name when you had the wool, then to throw it to someone else and to say their name too. I think this helped us learn lots of new names.

It also made a cool spider web!

Moronai got caught in our web!

We also met our buddy class, Room 25 and their teacher, Miss Leader. They are learning in the library at the moment, so we had lots of room to play a big game with all 52 of us!

Explain to your family how this game worked. You said "I really like someone who....."

And to add to our busy, fun week, we have had our first session of music with Mr McLay.

He was literally like The Pied Piper, and we danced around to his flute, while also playing other instruments as well.

What a great start to the year.

Creativity and Problem Solving

We have been having a week of getting to know each other, so have been using a lot of teamwork and creativity.

We were given the code below and each symbol was a body part that had to be touching the ground.

This made for some interesting formations of our tinana (bodies).

Then we had a go at making up our own codes.

Samantha wrote every symbol down, so every part of her body was touching the ground! That was very creative!

So many different ways to show just your feet and hands on the ground.

Manasa blew us all away with his interpretation of just his hands on the ground.

We were all inspired.

Nikita took just hands on the ground to the next level too. I am looking forward to learning alongside this creative, crazy bunch!

Welcome to Room 12 - 2015

Hi there,

Well, a few changes this year. I have moved classes from Room 6 in the Junior School to Room 12 in the Middle School. We are made up of 25 amazing scholars who are in Year 3 & 4. I am already impressed with how creative, funny, and excited about learning we are.

Here's a few pictures of how we have started the year so far.

We are getting excited about learning about Dr Seuss this year.

Tell your whanau (family) what your have already learned about Dr Seuss. We are writing his biography, so we know a few facts!

Boss for a day!

We love the book 'Boss for a week' by Libby Handy. It inspired us to have a boss for a day day! We all had a turn with a buddy to be the boss of room 6 for half an hour.

We had some great rules!

Mackenzie and Fiath led us in reading our shared book and our poem.

Kyle and Joshua H. were the teachers for reading groups.

Ethan and Saqqara were fantastic reading teachers, too!

Hayley and Byron read the class a story each.

Look at these bosses!

What a great, interesting day!

Books we love in Ruma Ono

Here are some of the books we love in Ruma Ono.... possible Christmas presents!

Our favourite author is Mo Willems and he writes really funny books about a character called Pigeon who is not allowed to do lots of stuff. His other great characters are Gerald and Piggy and they learn to dance and how to dress for fancy parties!

Here is another new book we love too.

Janine, Cameron's Mum comes in every morning and reads stories on the couch to whoever is around in the morning. We have an unofficial book club! She recommends the website thenile.co.nz for buying interesting books from overseas if you can't find them in NZ.

Our shared book - Boss for a week

This week has been fun as we all got to be the bosses during the day on Wednesday. We loved it! It was very fascinating for Miss Eyre to watch.

As we only had the one book by Libby Handy to read (Boss for a week) we had to make our own. We hope you enjoy it!

If I were boss for a day on Monday, on Monday,
I would make Miss Eyre write a narrative all day!

If I were boss for a day on Tuesday, on Tuesday,
I would let Mr Maindonald clean our class.

If I were boss for a day on Wednesday, on Wednesday,
I would be the principal.

If I were boss for a day on Thursday, on Thursday,
I would sit in a rubbish bin.

If I were boss for a day on Friday, on Fridday,
I would let everyone play on the ipapa (ipad) and rorohiko (computer) for the whole day.

If I were boss for a day on Saturday, on Saturday,
I would make the teachers clean up the pizza.

If I were boss for a day on Sunday, on Sunday,
I would let everybody do what they want so they can have fun!

So, look out world!!
