Margaret Mahy

Today we read this book by Margaret Mahy to remember her and her awesome books. What can you find down the back of the chair at your place? Leave a comment below to tell us what you discover. Will you find money? Or crumbs? Or elephants drinking tea??

We have also read "A Summery Saturday Morning" and "Me and my Dog". We think that Margaret Mahy must really like dogs!

Here is our weekly update from Kaitlyn and Amelia.

"Margaret Mahy wrote a lot of books. They are really cool. This week we have been learning to write stories, which are also called narratives. We're learning about where it is (our setting) and the characters, the people in the story. Then there is a problem and they solve it! My character is called Space Alien (Amelia), and mine are Kitty and Puppy (Kaitlyn). We have been at school for 105 days, which is one group of 100 and 5 ones. We are also learning to add and subtract by tens."

What a great update girls! Continue to learn the sign language to 'Stand Tall', Ruma Ono and enjoy watching the Olympics this weekend.

Go New Zealand!!

Stand Tall - New Zealand's Olympic Song

We are going to learn this song and maybe if we get good enough, sing it at assembly.

We are learning it in sign language because it's one of Aotearoa's national languages. The other national languages are English and Te Reo.

Let me show you the actions I know at home.

(Miss Eyre just updated this so that it's not a youtube link now, but a safeshare tv one).

We have been at school for 100 days!!!

Alice came ready with her 100 Day Party Hat!

We had collected so many interesting items. What can you see in the pictures?

We also brought in 10c coins to support our World Vision children. How much money did Room 6 raise? How much money is in each row? How many rows are there?

Don't forget that we had a shared lunch! It was delicious! What did you eat?

And finally, to top off a fantastic day, we had a disco. Check out our moves on the dance floor! In some photos we are moving so fast that the picture is blurred!

Look at you go, Oliver and Blair.

That's some fancy footwork, Connor.

Nesta and Alex did a great job watching the door.

"Partay!" said Joshua.

Monique and James had fun dancing together.

Jayda did a great move, but Miss Eyre just missed it with the camera.

Conga, anyone?

Strike a pose. We will miss you, Taiyo. Have a fun 3 weeks in Japan.

We like to move it, move it.

I bet we all sleep well tonight, especially Miss Eyre!

Wabi sabi

Check out these tulips. Are they showing wabi sabi? Do you remember what wabi sabi is?

Holiday Fun!

Hi Ruma Ono,

What have you all been getting up to these holidays? Leave a comment and tell me how much fun you've been having.

Yesterday I went to Nutcracker on Ice, which had lots of ice skaters telling a story. And outside of Aotea Square I went on a merry-go-round with my cousin!
I have also been sleeping and reading a lot. Have you been reading? If so, what books? I would love to know.

See you in a week!
Miss Eyre
