Boss for a day!

We love the book 'Boss for a week' by Libby Handy. It inspired us to have a boss for a day day! We all had a turn with a buddy to be the boss of room 6 for half an hour.

We had some great rules!

Mackenzie and Fiath led us in reading our shared book and our poem.

Kyle and Joshua H. were the teachers for reading groups.

Ethan and Saqqara were fantastic reading teachers, too!

Hayley and Byron read the class a story each.

Look at these bosses!

What a great, interesting day!

Books we love in Ruma Ono

Here are some of the books we love in Ruma Ono.... possible Christmas presents!

Our favourite author is Mo Willems and he writes really funny books about a character called Pigeon who is not allowed to do lots of stuff. His other great characters are Gerald and Piggy and they learn to dance and how to dress for fancy parties!

Here is another new book we love too.

Janine, Cameron's Mum comes in every morning and reads stories on the couch to whoever is around in the morning. We have an unofficial book club! She recommends the website thenile.co.nz for buying interesting books from overseas if you can't find them in NZ.

Our shared book - Boss for a week

This week has been fun as we all got to be the bosses during the day on Wednesday. We loved it! It was very fascinating for Miss Eyre to watch.

As we only had the one book by Libby Handy to read (Boss for a week) we had to make our own. We hope you enjoy it!

If I were boss for a day on Monday, on Monday,
I would make Miss Eyre write a narrative all day!

If I were boss for a day on Tuesday, on Tuesday,
I would let Mr Maindonald clean our class.

If I were boss for a day on Wednesday, on Wednesday,
I would be the principal.

If I were boss for a day on Thursday, on Thursday,
I would sit in a rubbish bin.

If I were boss for a day on Friday, on Fridday,
I would let everyone play on the ipapa (ipad) and rorohiko (computer) for the whole day.

If I were boss for a day on Saturday, on Saturday,
I would make the teachers clean up the pizza.

If I were boss for a day on Sunday, on Sunday,
I would let everybody do what they want so they can have fun!

So, look out world!!

It's Teddy Bear Week

We have had special visitors this week - our teddies!!

We went down to the bush to see how cool it is! Rooms 7 and 14 have done an amazing job at making it into a lovely place to visit.

Look at how great it is!

We used our teddies in maths for some measurement. Who's was the biggest?
Who's teddy was the smallest?

The rain finally cleared up for us to have a teddy bears picnic with some hot chips!

Then we got creative! Miss a Eyre gave us free reign in the classroom to make two bear huts. Look at us go!

There were even pretend candles made of mobile and marbles. Great Green Hat thinking!

We look forward to next week when we look at the book 'Boss for a Week' by Libby Handy.

Working backwards

It's been a while since the last blog post, taku aroha - apologies!
But here we all are, looking spectacularly wacky for Wacky Hair Day.

What a beautiful hairstyle your teacher has.

And here are a few highlights from Athletics which I was sorry to miss as I had Jury Duty. It sounded like an extremely successful morning though, with lots of fun had by all.

Sack race. I heard the sack was almost bigger than Heavenly!

Everyone loved the parachute.

We're pretty good at the high jump now.

And look how far we can jump in the long jump.

We steadily improved in our javelin technique over our practises.

In Ruma Ono we sometimes get special manuhiri (visitors) from other classes who share some of their learning with us. Here are Ava, Cheyanne and Zac from Room 11 telling us about their mini-me's.

Here is our funny spring photo to complete our seasons photos for the year. How has our class changed since summer?

Here was another special visitor - a robot! Well, it was Amelia, Felix's sister who is making a very creative project.

Music-Video Making

Today we created a soundtrack for our music video.  First we made the video of our photos and minecraft stadium pictures, then we made our music tracks.

Mr McLay helped us put them together. Here are some of our music videos

Lots of learning

We have been busy as per usual in Ruma Onon.

We finished learning about probability last week. We can now use the words certain, possible, and impossible in regards to probability. Ask us about a scenario and we can answer it using the proper language. We also have hand actions to help us remember the new terms.

Hayley went home and did some extra learning about probability which she brought in to share with us all.

We have now started to learn about symmetry. Here is our first attempt at drawing symmetry in our math books.

Some of us could even write backwards!! Pretty clever.

This afternoon we also made symmetrical patterns with equipment.

Mackenzie was most impressed with herself for figuring out that a square has symmetrical properties too!

And finally our class ran the junior assembly today. We performed our song "If your clothes" and sang about colours. We sounded like we had an echo in our song, which made a lot of teachers and parents smile! We sung with all our hearts and looked like we were having fun performing to our friends.

We also did a colour transformation show. Miss Eyre painted our hands different colours and when we mixed them together the audience had to guess what colour our hands were now. Talk about magic!

Have a great long weekend, Ruma Ono and whanau, and see you on Tuesday!
