Grandparent Day

We had so many Grandparents visit Room 6 on Tuesday 25th September.

We showed them how to play maths games.

There were lots of stories to be read.

We even showed them how to use the Interactive Whiteboard. Our grandparents didn't have them when they were at school. Ask your grandparents how school was different back then.

Who won this game, Connor?

Looks like our popa's were learning some maths from Scarlett and Alice.

Monique read some of her fantastic writing to her Grandma.

Miss Eyre's Nana and Popa came too!!

What a GRAND day!

Badminton and technology

We have been practising badminton. It is our new favourite sport apparently!! Everyone is up for the challenge.

Room 6 decided to do some experimenting with how we could design our own shuttlecocks. We tried a few substitute items. We talked about what worked well, and what didn't and why. Tell Mum and Dad about your results.

We tried a rubber, a red nose, a rubber dinosaur, and some screwed up scrap paper.

We also had a big foam dice and tested how tissue paper worked.

We found that most of us could hit the screwed up paper even easier than the shuttlecock, but the rubber bounced well. Some of us thought marshmallows would be amazing shuttlecocks, but unfortunately we didn't have any to experiment with.

In the end we all made our own coloured shuttlecocks out of screwed up paper with some sellotape to hold down the pointed parts. We got to choose if we wanted to add tissue wings or not.

Look at us go! We are great badminton players.

Look out Olympic Games 2024!!!

James has an awesome mum!

You can look at this link to see how James' Mum is raising money for a wee girl named Bella, who has cancer. Bella's mum used to work at Western Heights. We wish them well. Go Rachel!

Scarlett's sister on TV!

http://tvnz.co.nz/breakfast-news/students-spin-trash-into-fashion-video-5060602

Scarlett's sister Ellen was on the Breakfast programme in the morning as she is involved in the Trash to Fashion show. She made a fashion outfit out of rubbish such as a computer, a t-shirt with the sleeves cut off. What other rubbish can you see?

These clever people are using technology and rubbish to create something and exciting.

We are about to study technology and are thinking about how we can redesign a shuttlecock to make it better for badminton. We'll keep you posted!

Synchronised Swimming Teachers

Check out the Pod A teachers at Western Heights swimming in a semi synchronised way.
It's not the best quality video, but you get the vibe!!

We had so much fun performing it, a little too much fun I think.
